Ford’s $5B Investment Powers the Future of Affordable Electric Vehicles

Ford is investing $5 billion in U.S. manufacturing to bring an all-new family of affordable electric vehicles to market, starting with a midsize electric truck coming in 2027. This bold move will create nearly 4,000 American jobs, launch a new EV platform, and debut a revolutionary production process at the Louisville Assembly Plant and BlueOval Battery Park Michigan. A New Era: The Ford Universal EV Platform Ford’s Universal EV Platform is designed to build multiple vehicle types at scale, electric, fun to drive, and digitally advanced. With over-the-air updates, your Ford will keep improving long after you drive it home. The first model? A midsize four-door electric pickup with: Target starting price: around $30,000 Performance: 0–60 mph as quick as a Mustang EcoBoost Space: more passenger room than a Toyota RAV4, plus a frunk and truck bed Launch: built in Louisville, available in 2027 for U.S. and export markets Smarter Engineering for Lower Costs The new platform isn’t just about speed and style. It’s about making EVs more affordable to own: 20% fewer parts and 25% fewer fasteners than typical vehicles 40% fewer workstations on the assembly floor 15% faster build time Lower 5-year cost of ownership than a used Tesla Model Y Ford’s cobalt-free, nickel-free prismatic LFP batteries double as the vehicle floor, lowering the center of gravity for better handling, a quieter ride, and even more interior space. The Breakthrough: The Ford Universal EV Production System More than a century after inventing the moving assembly line, Ford is reinventing it. The Universal EV Production System swaps the traditional single conveyor for an “assembly tree” with three sub-assembly lines: Front vehicle section Rear vehicle section Structural battery pack —assembled with seats, consoles, and carpeting Large aluminum unicastings replace dozens of smaller parts, cutting complexity and boosting precision. This system improves ergonomics for workers, reduces repetitive motions, and speeds up production by up to 40%. Why This Matters for Albuquerque Drivers This innovation means more affordable, better-performing EVs will be available right here in New Mexico built by American workers, with cutting-edge technology and engineering. Whether you’re looking for a work-ready truck with zero emissions or an EV that’s fun to drive and easy to maintain, Ford’s next generation of electric vehicles is built to deliver. FAQ When will Ford’s midsize electric truck be available? Production is scheduled to begin in 2027 at the Louisville Assembly Plant. How much will it cost? Ford targets a starting MSRP of around $30,000. What’s special about prismatic LFP batteries? They’re more affordable, cobalt-free, nickel-free, and serve as part of the vehicle’s structure—improving space, handling, and durability. Will this EV be fun to drive? Absolutely—expect instant torque, a low center of gravity, and a 0–60 time as quick as a Mustang EcoBoost.

2026 Bronco 60th Anniversary Package Celebrates Heritage, Built Wild Capability

On August 11, 1965, Ford introduced the Bronco and coined the phrase “sport-utility.” Over the past six decades, Bronco has redefined what an SUV can be with its capability and off-road performance. Now, Ford is celebrating that pioneering role with the 2026 Bronco 60th Anniversary Package. The Bronco 60th Anniversary Package blends bolder colors and accents in the cabin, timeless visuals on the exterior, and the same uncompromising off-road capability owners expect. All so customers can enjoy a Built Wild SUV that’s fit for any lifestyle. Bold Legacy-Inspired Design Capability is core to Bronco’s DNA. The Bronco 60th Anniversary package starts with the Outer Banks series with either a standard 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder or optional 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6. Only available with the Sasquatch package, which adds an Advanced 4x4 system with high-clearance suspension, a more aggressive final drive ratio, and electronic-locking front and rear differentials, this celebratory Bronco features 35-inch Goodyear rugged terrain tires matched with unique new 17-inch Gravity Gray alloy wheels. A contrasting Vermilion Red center cap with a Bucking Bronco logo in the middle and “1966,” the model year of the first production Broncos, on the outside ring. The wheel design and the contrasting Vermilion Red center cap harken back to the original hubcaps on the 1966 Bronco. A new grille draws inspiration from the original design but pairs it with Warm Alloy paint and modern Vermilion Red “BRONCO” lettering. Wimbledon White, a historic Ford color available on the original Bronco, is available with a matching roof. Customers can select a contrasting Ruby Red body with a Wimbledon White roof, as well. A Vermilion Red graphic on the body sides starts at the front with the Bronco 60th Anniversary logo, while prominent 60th Anniversary badging, inspired by the same classic cloisonné badging found on the Mustang 60th Anniversary package, sits on the fenders and leaves little doubt about this special Bronco’s provenance. And as with all Broncos, the Ford Design team has hidden an Easter egg or two for this special edition package. Premium Touches The Bronco 60th Anniversary package has the style and capability owners expect. But it’s bringing a richer, more premium cabin experience to market, too, with the combination of Ebony leather upholstery on the seat outers and bolsters, along with Alpine leather inserts and embossed 60th Anniversary logos on the seatbacks. Alpine marine-grade vinyl arm rests add to the experience, and Alpine stitching on the leather-topped dash pairs well with Bronco Red accents on the instrument panel and grab handles. The 60th Anniversary Package adds standard wheelbase-length running boards to aid ingress and egress and also introduces new A-pillar-mounted grab handles, available on all 2026 Bronco models. And at the rear, a new hard-center rear tire cover, finished in Wimbledon White and featuring a Vermilion Red “BRONCO” wordmark, introduces a more premium look to the rear of the vehicle, as does a matte black Ford badge on the tailgate. The 2026 Bronco and the 60th Anniversary Package will be available to order in October, with pricing to come out shortly before. This article was originally published on Ford From the Road.

How 2025 Expedition Suspension Delivers a Better Ride on Rugged Terrain

Creating a suspension system that meets the wide-ranging uses of a vehicle like the all-new 2025 Expedition, it turns out, is a lot like many things in life. It’s all about balance. With the outgoing Expedition, we already had a full-size SUV that delivered a highway ride our customers liked. But what their feedback also told us was that we needed to reduce the impact harshness when driving over small bumps, potholes, and other surface imperfections. The challenge for us was achieving those improvements without compromising the elements of ride and handling the customers already liked. To get there, we started in a logical place: We took the front suspension from F-150 pickups. With that Build Ford Tough-proven framework in place, we set out to make changes tailored to Expedition. We retuned the springs and shocks, updated the stabilizer bar attachment location, softened the body mounts, and redesigned elements of the rear frame and hitch. Collectively, these changes help the suspension breathe better when driving over bumpy road surfaces. Now, the vehicle follows the curves of bumps better and feels much more isolated from the road. The entire vehicle absorbs those undulations without feeling “floaty.” The end result? Expedition drivers will feel less input through the seat when driving over bumps and have a more comfortable overall ride, especially on long-distance trips. Guided by customer and test-drive feedback Between durability testing and prototype drives, we put the all-new Expedition through its paces and used all of that test-drive feedback to create a vehicle with more of what our customers want. The feedback came from a broad spectrum of users — from folks who pull a trailer regularly to those who primarily use the vehicle for a daily commute to those who have their sights set on off-road adventures. For the former, the redesigned frame and suspension help enable 7,000-pound towing without a weight distribution bar. Weight distribution bars weigh about 50 pounds each and take about a half-hour to install. But with the all-new 2025 Expedition, hauling small trailers or boats can be done without needing to add heavy-duty gear, making it a positive experience for the customer. For customers hauling heavier loads, the Expedition towing capacity increases to 9,600 pounds with weight distribution bars installed — an increase of 300 pounds over the current model. Delivering a Tremor to Expedition off-roaders And for the latter off-road-minded group, we built the all-new 2025 Expedition Tremor. To more confidently take on the trails, we retuned the suspension further, but once again, didn’t sacrifice on-road handling and comfort. During their daily commutes, Tremor owners will feel a comfortable ride, even with the larger tires. Once off-road, the Tremor features a taller stance, a significantly improved ground clearance of 48.3 mm, and unique steering tuning compared to the Expedition 4x4 base model. It also has a suite of features such as Rock Crawl mode, Trail Turn Assist, Trail 1-Pedal Drive, and robust underbody protection that makes off-roading a blast. The shocks and springs are also all-new for Tremor with completely unique tuning designed to handle rough trails. We spent a lot of time driving Tremor across rocky terrain at rock parks. We drove it through sand. We took it to the United Arab Emirates and challenged it with sweltering desert heat. Tremor handled it all with ease and felt very comfortable doing so. Through all of our work on the suspension system, we had the additional challenge of improving cabin noise levels, a challenge made even more difficult with the arrival of the all-new split gate. Guided by customer feedback, we aimed to improve communication between first- and third-row occupants by redesigning the exhaust mufflers and adding a robust sound package and meticulous sealing on the new split gate. With a vehicle like the all-new 2025 Expedition, which has use cases ranging from soccer team transporter to vacation toy hauler, there is much to consider when designing the perfect suspension system. Creating a system that takes on choppy terrain, preserves its excellent highway ride, and increases towing capacity required a lot of trial, error, and driver feedback. And balance. 11 Wonderful Facts as Ford Transit Turns 60

Ford is celebrating 60 years of production for our world-famous Transit® van, and as such, our European team has scoured the archives to come up with 60 questions to put your Transit knowledge to the test — questions that span the weird, the wonderful, and the amazing. We’ve decided that since the Ford Transit is in its 11th year of U.S. sales, we’d share our favorite 11 items from the full list. 1. Project Redcap The development work for the 1965 Ford Transit was started in Britain under the code name of “Project Redcap,” with an engineering team that included Sir Alex Trotman, who would go on to become Ford Motor Company’s worldwide chairman and chief executive officer. It could have been launched as the “V-Series.” Instead, a last-minute decision saw it adopt the Transit name. 2. It All Started Here Aug. 9, 1965. The first ever Ford Transit came down the line at the company’s Langley commercial vehicle plant in Berkshire, England. The least-expensive model is a short-wheelbase, gas-engined van with a 1,344-lb payload. It cost £542. The most-expensive Transit listed at that time was a 15-seat Custom bus, which cost £997, plus £159 purchase tax, equivalent to $2,785 at the time. 3. The Amazing Transit Supervan Mk1 The first Transit Supervan debuted at Brands Hatch on Easter Monday in 1971. This hot property was based on a Ford GT40 and powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine. It could achieve a top speed of 149 miles per hour (mph). 4. Big Numbers In 1976, the one millionth Ford Transit came off the production line in Europe. Since its start of U.S. production in 2014, the Kansas City Assembly Plant has assembled 1 more than 1.5 million Transit vans. Globally, over 13 million Transit vans have been assembled since its original launch in 1965. 5. Buried in Snow for Six Months In October 1985, Seville, Spain, resident Juan Garcia was caught by a freak snowstorm over 9,800 feet up a mountain pass. He abandoned his Transit Kombi, which was subsequently buried under 16 feet of snow. He returned six months later in the spring and was amazed to find the Transit’s bodywork was only slightly damaged. He was even more amazed when the Transit started right up the first time, allowing him to drive safely home. We’d like to think it’s a testament to Transit quality and Built Ford Tough® design. In fact, 98% of all Transits vans sold in the U.S. are still on the road today 2. 6. Van Chasing The Ford Transit has been used in many feature films, but not often in a car chase. Actor Michael Caine is pictured here in between takes on set for his 1987 movie, "The Fourth Protocol." 7. Transit Meets 'The Queen of the Ring' The late German racing driver Sabine Schmitz caught the public’s imagination when she drove a Ford Transit around the infamous Nürburgring circuit, Germany, in just over 10 minutes on BBC’s "Top Gear" TV program in 2005. Two years later, this picture shows her behind the wheel of the new Transit SportVan. 8. The Gamer’s Transit In 2021, Ford's esports team, Team Fordzilla, converted a Transit into a gaming van with Xbox consoles and adapted it for wheelchair access to be used when visiting children’s hospices. 9. Transit — a Game Changer If you’ve ever played 2018’s "Forza Horizon 4" video game, you’ll know that one of the vehicles available to drive is the Transit Mk1. The game’s producers took up to 1,000 photos of a van from Ford’s own heritage fleet to come up with a detailed virtual replica of the van, right down to the detail of the Transit’s door hinge bolts. 10. Ford Launches E-Transit In 2022, Ford introduced the E-Transit to the U.S. market, the first all-electric full-size van from the company. Production began in the Kansas City Assembly Plant alongside internal combustion models. E-Transit™ production for European markets began the following year. Today, E-Transit is the bestselling electric commercial van in America 3. 11. The SuperVan 4.2 Tackles Pikes Peak Inspired by the Ford E-Transit Custom, the SuperVan 4.2, with its 1,400 horsepower produced by three electric motors and 2.2 tons of downforce at 150 mph took to the 2023 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb in Colorado. 2025 Ford Bronco Sport: Comprehensive Safety Ratings and Highlights

Bronco Sport Safety: The 2025 Ford Bronco Sport achieves impressive safety credentials with a five-star overall NHTSA rating and comes standard with the advanced Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ suite. While it excels in most crash scenarios, recent IIHS evaluations revealed some concerns about rear-passenger protection, preventing it from achieving Top Safety Pick status. Despite this, the vehicle offers robust protection features including automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and specialized off-road safety systems. Can an adventure-ready SUV truly deliver the protection your family deserves without compromising its rugged spirit? This question drives many families to explore what the newest Bronco Sport offers in terms of security technology and crash protection. The latest model has earned impressive credentials from government testing agencies. It received a coveted five-star overall NHTSA rating, showcasing its commitment to occupant protection. Every vehicle comes standard with the advanced Co-Pilot360 Assist+ suite, bringing cutting-edge technology to your daily drives. Recent IIHS evaluations, though, revealed some concerns about rear-passenger protection during certain crash scenarios. These findings prevent the vehicle from achieving Top Pick status, though the overall protection package remains robust. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) test it. They check safety from different angles. NHTSA Five-Star Safety Rating Breakdown The 2025 Ford Bronco Sport earned a top five-star NHTSA rating. The rating looks at crash protection in several areas. NHTSA tests how well it does in frontal crashes, side impacts, and rollover tests. Each area gets a star rating. The Bronco Sport did great in these tests. This five-star rating means you're very safe in crashes. It comes from lots of computer simulations and real crash tests. NHTSA's strict rules make sure it's a true safety score. IIHS Safety Evaluation IIHS tests showed mixed results for the 2025 Ford Bronco Sport. It earned strong "Good" ratings in headlights and pedestrian automatic emergency braking but didn't get the Top Safety Pick award because the updated moderate-overlap front test was rated "Marginal" for rear-seat protection and the new side-impact test was "Acceptable." The rear seat had problems in IIHS tests. The dummy's lap belt moved up during crashes. This could hurt rear-seat passengers. These scores highlight where the SUV could improve, but overall protection remains strong in most crash types. Structural Integrity and Collision Protection The Bronco Sport has a strong steel safety cage. This keeps the passenger area safe in crashes. It also has special points to spread out crash forces. Advanced airbags cushion you in crashes. They deploy based on how severe the crash is and where you are. Crumple zones absorb crash forces. The front and rear sections are designed to bend safely, helping keep occupants protected.
