How 2025 Expedition Suspension Delivers a Better Ride on Rugged Terrain

Creating a suspension system that meets the wide-ranging uses of a vehicle like the all-new 2025 Expedition, it turns out, is a lot like many things in life. It’s all about balance. With the outgoing Expedition, we already had a full-size SUV that delivered a highway ride our customers liked. But what their feedback also told us was that we needed to reduce the impact harshness when driving over small bumps, potholes, and other surface imperfections. The challenge for us was achieving those improvements without compromising the elements of ride and handling the customers already liked. more To get there, we started in a logical place: We took the front suspension from F-150 pickups. With that Build Ford Tough-proven framework in place, we set out to make changes tailored to Expedition. We retuned the springs and shocks, updated the stabilizer bar attachment location, softened the body mounts, and redesigned elements of the rear frame and hitch. Collectively, these changes help the suspension breathe better when driving over bumpy road surfaces. Now, the vehicle follows the curves of bumps better and feels much more isolated from the road. The entire vehicle absorbs those undulations without feeling “floaty.” The end result? Expedition drivers will feel less input through the seat when driving over bumps and have a more comfortable overall ride, especially on long-distance trips. Guided by customer and test-drive feedback Between durability testing and prototype drives, we put the all-new Expedition through its paces and used all of that test-drive feedback to create a vehicle with more of what our customers want. The feedback came from a broad spectrum of users — from folks who pull a trailer regularly to those who primarily use the vehicle for a daily commute to those who have their sights set on off-road adventures. For the former, the redesigned frame and suspension help enable 7,000-pound towing without a weight distribution bar. Weight distribution bars weigh about 50 pounds each and take about a half-hour to install. But with the all-new 2025 Expedition, hauling small trailers or boats can be done without needing to add heavy-duty gear, making it a positive experience for the customer. For customers hauling heavier loads, the Expedition towing capacity increases to 9,600 pounds with weight distribution bars installed — an increase of 300 pounds over the current model. Delivering a Tremor to Expedition off-roaders And for the latter off-road-minded group, we built the all-new 2025 Expedition Tremor. To more confidently take on the trails, we retuned the suspension further, but once again, didn’t sacrifice on-road handling and comfort. During their daily commutes, Tremor owners will feel a comfortable ride, even with the larger tires. Once off-road, the Tremor features a taller stance, a significantly improved ground clearance of 48.3 mm, and unique steering tuning compared to the Expedition 4x4 base model. It also has a suite of features such as Rock Crawl mode, Trail Turn Assist, Trail 1-Pedal Drive, and robust underbody protection that makes off-roading a blast. The shocks and springs are also all-new for Tremor with completely unique tuning designed to handle rough trails. We spent a lot of time driving Tremor across rocky terrain at rock parks. We drove it through sand. We took it to the United Arab Emirates and challenged it with sweltering desert heat. Tremor handled it all with ease and felt very comfortable doing so. Through all of our work on the suspension system, we had the additional challenge of improving cabin noise levels, a challenge made even more difficult with the arrival of the all-new split gate. Guided by customer feedback, we aimed to improve communication between first- and third-row occupants by redesigning the exhaust mufflers and adding a robust sound package and meticulous sealing on the new split gate. With a vehicle like the all-new 2025 Expedition, which has use cases ranging from soccer team transporter to vacation toy hauler, there is much to consider when designing the perfect suspension system. Creating a system that takes on choppy terrain, preserves its excellent highway ride, and increases towing capacity required a lot of trial, error, and driver feedback. And balance. Ford Transit

11 Wonderful Facts as Ford Transit Turns 60

Ford is celebrating 60 years of production for our world-famous Transit® van, and as such, our European team has scoured the archives to come up with 60 questions to put your Transit knowledge to the test — questions that span the weird, the wonderful, and the amazing. We’ve decided that since the Ford Transit is in its 11th year of U.S. sales, we’d share our favorite 11 items from the full list. more 1. Project Redcap The development work for the 1965 Ford Transit was started in Britain under the code name of “Project Redcap,” with an engineering team that included Sir Alex Trotman, who would go on to become Ford Motor Company’s worldwide chairman and chief executive officer. It could have been launched as the “V-Series.” Instead, a last-minute decision saw it adopt the Transit name. 2. It All Started Here Aug. 9, 1965. The first ever Ford Transit came down the line at the company’s Langley commercial vehicle plant in Berkshire, England. The least-expensive model is a short-wheelbase, gas-engined van with a 1,344-lb payload. It cost £542. The most-expensive Transit listed at that time was a 15-seat Custom bus, which cost £997, plus £159 purchase tax, equivalent to $2,785 at the time. 3. The Amazing Transit Supervan Mk1 The first Transit Supervan debuted at Brands Hatch on Easter Monday in 1971. This hot property was based on a Ford GT40 and powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine. It could achieve a top speed of 149 miles per hour (mph). 4. Big Numbers In 1976, the one millionth Ford Transit came off the production line in Europe. Since its start of U.S. production in 2014, the Kansas City Assembly Plant has assembled 1 more than 1.5 million Transit vans. Globally, over 13 million Transit vans have been assembled since its original launch in 1965. 5. Buried in Snow for Six Months In October 1985, Seville, Spain, resident Juan Garcia was caught by a freak snowstorm over 9,800 feet up a mountain pass. He abandoned his Transit Kombi, which was subsequently buried under 16 feet of snow. He returned six months later in the spring and was amazed to find the Transit’s bodywork was only slightly damaged. He was even more amazed when the Transit started right up the first time, allowing him to drive safely home. We’d like to think it’s a testament to Transit quality and Built Ford Tough® design. In fact, 98% of all Transits vans sold in the U.S. are still on the road today 2. 6. Van Chasing The Ford Transit has been used in many feature films, but not often in a car chase. Actor Michael Caine is pictured here in between takes on set for his 1987 movie, "The Fourth Protocol." 7. Transit Meets 'The Queen of the Ring' The late German racing driver Sabine Schmitz caught the public’s imagination when she drove a Ford Transit around the infamous Nürburgring circuit, Germany, in just over 10 minutes on BBC’s "Top Gear" TV program in 2005. Two years later, this picture shows her behind the wheel of the new Transit SportVan. 8. The Gamer’s Transit In 2021, Ford's esports team, Team Fordzilla, converted a Transit into a gaming van with Xbox consoles and adapted it for wheelchair access to be used when visiting children’s hospices. 9. Transit — a Game Changer If you’ve ever played 2018’s "Forza Horizon 4" video game, you’ll know that one of the vehicles available to drive is the Transit Mk1. The game’s producers took up to 1,000 photos of a van from Ford’s own heritage fleet to come up with a detailed virtual replica of the van, right down to the detail of the Transit’s door hinge bolts. 10. Ford Launches E-Transit In 2022, Ford introduced the E-Transit to the U.S. market, the first all-electric full-size van from the company. Production began in the Kansas City Assembly Plant alongside internal combustion models. E-Transit™ production for European markets began the following year. Today, E-Transit is the bestselling electric commercial van in America 3. 11. The SuperVan 4.2 Tackles Pikes Peak Inspired by the Ford E-Transit Custom, the SuperVan 4.2, with its 1,400 horsepower produced by three electric motors and 2.2 tons of downforce at 150 mph took to the 2023 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb in Colorado. 2025 Mustang Mach-E

Consumer Reports Picks 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E Over Chevy Blazer EV

The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E was treated to some notable updates for its latest model year, though no mid-cycle refresh as of yet. Regardless, those updates were good enough to snag the EV crossover a spot on Consumer Reports ‘ Best EVs of 2025 list, and back in March, that same organization named the Mach-E as a better choice than the Toyota bZ4X, due to its superior predicted reliability and owner satisfaction scores, among other factors. Now, CR has also named the Ford Mustang Mach-E as a better option than one of its other chief rivals. more In its latest list of popular vehicles to avoid and what to buy instead, Consumer Reports picked the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E over the Chevy Blazer EV, and for a number of reasons. The Blazer EV has an overall score of 39 out of 100 possible points, compared to 68 for the Mach-E, largely due to its below average predicted reliability. CR notes that the Blazer EV has had some “growing pains,” coupled with a stiff ride and sloppy handling, to boot. The 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E, on the other hand, received above average road testing and predicted owner satisfaction scores, coupled with an average predicted reliability score. The Mach-E returned 299 miles of range in real-world testing with the extended-range battery, and it offers up much faster charging speeds. CR wrote that the Mach-E’s performed admirably in nearly every measurable category. Click here to explore the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E at Power Ford in Albuquerque.
